Compare
Gnymble vs OtterText. In their words and ours.
Both text for SHAFT businesses. Here is where the terms differ, quoted from OtterText's own pages with the date we read them.
Who it is for
OtterText: "OtterText provides cigar retailers, lounges, and manufacturers with powerful SMS and MMS marketing solutions."
Gnymble: Compliant texting for cigar shops and lounges, distilleries, breweries, wine bars, firearm ranges, and other regulated businesses. We do texting very well. Everyone else won't do it at all.
Contracts
OtterText: "Everything from Essential through Momentum is month-to-month with no contract at all." Its Summit and Apex plans are 12-month agreements, where "Early termination equals the remaining contract value."
Gnymble: No contracts. Month-to-month. Cancel any time with 30 days notice.
Registration
OtterText, in its FAQ: "For the Lite plan, the cost to register a 10DLC number is $100. For all other plans, it's $50."
Gnymble: Registration is included in your first month. No contract.
Going over your plan
OtterText: "If you go past your included credits we bill at $0.030 a credit, all-in with carrier fees already inside it." And: "One credit is one SMS segment."
Gnymble: Nothing stops. Segments past your monthly allowance bill as overage after your billing period closes, and we send you a usage note before the invoice. Overage is $0.05 a segment on Starter, $0.04 on Core and $0.03 on Elite; larger plans carry their rate in the agreement. A text up to 160 characters is one segment. A picture message counts as 4 on Starter, 3 on Core, and 2 on Elite and above.
Gnymble: One all-in price. The plan and the overage rate are the whole cost, with no carrier fees passed through.
Picture messages
OtterText: "An MMS, meaning any message carrying an image, GIF or video, costs 3 credits."
Gnymble: A picture message counts as 4 segments on Starter, 3 on Core, and 2 on Elite and above. Starter sends picture messages with the MMS add-on.
Age gating
OtterText: "All businesses in Alcohol, Tobacco (Cigars), and Firearms must have a 21+ AgeGate verification" on their website, with "Full birthdate entry (MM/DD/YYYY) required."
Gnymble: The gate runs in the text conversation itself. A new subscriber replies with a date of birth and gets no marketing text until it qualifies. The minimum is set per number, 18 or 21.
